How To Maintain Your Watch

Maintaining your automatic watch ensures its longevity and accurate timekeeping. Here’s a brief guide on setting the time and date, screwing in the crown, and removing the clasp:

SETTING THE DATE AND TIME

  • Unscrew the Crown (if applicable): If your watch has a screw-down crown, gently unscrew it by turning it counterclockwise until it pops out.
  • Set the Date: Pull the crown out to the first position (usually the second click for most watches). Turn the crown clockwise to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as the date-change mechanism is active and can be damaged.
  • Set the Time: Pull the crown out to the second position (the furthest click). Rotate the crown to set the time. Ensure that AM/PM is correctly set by turning the hands past 12 and watching for the date change.
  • Push the Crown Back In: Once the time and date are set, tap the crown back in gently to the normal position.

SCREWING IN THE CROWN

  • Press and Turn: Press the crown against the case and turn it clockwise while applying slight pressure. Continue turning until it is securely screwed in.
  • Ensure a Tight Seal: A properly screwed-in crown is crucial for water resistance. Make sure it is snug but avoid over-tightening, as this can damage the threads.

REMOVING THE CLASP

  • Identify the Clasp Type:
Determine whether your watch has a deployant clasp or a butterfly clasp.
  • Open the Clasp: For deployant clasps, pull away the clasp cover revealing the clasp. Pull upwards from the underneath top to open. For butterfly clasps, press the buttons or fold back the arms to open.
  • Remove the Watch:
Once the clasp is open, gently slide the watch off your wrist.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE TIPS

  • Wind Regularly: Even if not worn daily, wind your watch to keep the oils in the movement distributed. You can do this by turning the crown clockwise 20-30 times.
  • Avoid Magnetic Fields: Keep your watch away from strong magnets, which can affect timekeeping.
  • Clean Gently: Wipe the case and bracelet with a soft cloth. Avoid water contact unless the watch is water-resistant and the crown is properly secured.
  • Service Periodically: Have your watch professionally serviced every 3-5 years to ensure optimal performance.

By following these steps, you can enjoy your automatic watch for years with accurate timekeeping and minimal wear.

Enjoy :)
